It’s the worst feeling! You’ve worked hard to earn the money that you invest into your Eyelash Extensions.  You wake up the next morning and see those beautiful lashes, laying gracefully on your pillow.

HOW? WHY? I JUST GOT THEM DONE? WHY ARE MY EYELASH EXTENSIONS FALLING OUT SO QUICKLY?

The truth is, there’s many contributing factors to lashes lasting a long time and this blog is here break it all down

1. THE MOST COMMON: LASH GROWTH CYCLE !

Your lashes are shedding as part of their natural growth cycle, old lashes fall out and new ones grow through to take their place.

Anagen stage: The first stage of the eyelash cycle, the lashes are too short and delicate to support extensions.

Catagen Stage: Transition phase, the end of the active growth of the lash. Perfect phase to apply extensions on as it has the most longevity.

Telogen Stage: Final stage of the lash growth cycle, the lash is released and falls out.

What this means:

  • The average eyelash has a life expectancy of 8 – 12 weeks, meaning all of your lashes will eventually fall out within this timeframe. Thankfully, they don’t fall out all at once!
  • Hair growth is a natural process; the average person person will loose 1 – 5 eyelashes a day, up to 20% over a fortnight.
  • The good news? When your old lashes fall out, new lashes quickly shoot up and replace them – you won’t even notice the exchange.
  • The bad news? When the old lashes fall out, your lash extensions will fall out with them! This is when you may notice “gaps” appearing in your lash line.

Don’t worry, there’s no reason to freak out!

We understand it’s only normal for someone to stress if their lashes are falling out pretty quickly after their last fill/set was applied.

Just remember, it’s completely normal to lose a few natural lashes every day.

If you have large, noticeable gaps then definitely get in contact with your lash technician to have these filled.

2.  WEARING OIL-BASED MAKEUP ON YOUR GORGEOUS LASHES!

The oil in the makeup (mascara, liquid liner, eyeliner) will break down the adhesive overtime and the lashes will eventually just slide off.

Eyelash Extensions take away the need for mascara, however you may still wish to use it on your lower lash line for some added definition.

If this is the case, then it’s a MUST that the makeup you use is OIL – FREE and eyelash extension safe.

3. NOT CLEANING YOUR LASHES DAILY WITH A PROPER EYELASH EXTENSION CLEANSER

This is a big NO NO! Just like your skin; dirt and bacteria can build up on your lashes so it’s important that you keep them clean!

Washing them daily will remove the build up of bacteria and will ensure they are kept squeaky clean, resulting in longer lasting lashes!

4. HUMIDITY

Every brand of lash adhesive contains an ingredient called, Cyanoacrylate which sets/cures with humidity. If the humidity is very high during your lash appointment, the adhesive may set too quickly.

If the adhesive sets before the extension attaches to the natural lash then there will be poor adhesion and the lash will eventually just pop off after a day or two.

Most lash technicians monitor the humidity and have equipment to correct it, although sometimes it can very difficult to adjust.

5. POOR QUALITY APPLICATION

Your lash technician may have used too little adhesive and the lash extensions may not be properly adhering to the natural lash. If this has happened, the lash extensions will just pop off.

Make sure you do your eyelash extension research and ensure you are getting your lashes applied by a qualified lash tech! Never compromise on quality when it comes to your lashes!
